received during the year and returned as genuine was as under :-

COMPLAINTS OF FOREIGN BODIES IN FOOD
Insect in Fruit Lolly
A fruit lolly, in which an insect was embedded, was purchased
by a resident from premises in the borough.
The manufacturers, whose premises were outside this borough,
were informed of the complaint and their representative inspected
the fruit lolly.
The Medical Officer of Health for the area in which the manufacturers'
premises were situated was also informed and reported
that the premises had been inspected and revealed a high standard
of hygiene and there was no infestation of any kind.
The Committee recommended a prosecution and the manufacturers
were fined £5 and ordered to pay £2. 2. 0. costs.
