In June 1946, Dr. Miriam Florentin, Assistant Medical
Officer of Health since June 1939, was redesignated as Deputy
Medical Officer of Health,
In September, Dr, Barbara Taylor took up her duties as fulltime
Assistant Medical Officer for Maternity and Child 'welfare
replacing 2 part-time Medical Officers.
5 cases of diphtheria were notified during the year but for
the eighth successive year there were no deaths from this
disease.
I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my
appreciation and thanks to His worship the Mayor, the Chairmen
and Members of the various Committees of the Council and to the
Chief Officers for the help and support I have received from
them during the year.
My thanks are also due to the staff of the public Health
Department for their loyalty, and for the good work carried out by
them during a year of expansion of services and a year fraught
with many difficulties.
