Difficulty was experienced in getting prompt attention to SanitaryNotices
due, not only owing to shortage of labour and materials, but also
to time taken in deciding whether defects were due to war damage or to
other causes.
I have to record with great regret the death in July 1945, of Mr.Frank
'Hicks, Chief Clerk since 1st September, 1930 after a long and trying illness.
I should like once again to take this opportunity of thanking His Worship
the Mayor, the Chairman and Members of the various Committees of the Council,
for the help and encouragement which I have received from them.
My thanks are also due to all members of the staff of the department for
their loyal support during the year.
