Tuberculosis Visiting.—With reference to the remarks made
by the Clinical Tuberculosis Officer in his Annual Report on the
subject of tuberculosis visiting in Stoke Newington, the following
report and recommendation having reference to the duties of the
Tuberculosis Health Visitor was submitted for the consideration
of the Public Health Committee :—
Tuberculosis Health Visitor.—One of the Council's Health
Visitors devotes half-time to visiting in the houses of tuberculous
patients. The duties include the giving of advice, preparing
reports on the home circumstances and general co-operation in
the matter of attendances of patients and their contacts at the
Tuberculosis Dispensary.
This officer has other duties in connection with Maternity
and Child Welfare work which include the home visiting and
supervision of foster-children in the capacity of child protection
visitor (480 visits in 1936), the visiting of measles and whooping
cough cases (156 visits in 1936), attendance at a welfare centre
two afternoons each week to assist in the general work, and
attendance at the diphtheria immunisation centre on one morning
each week.
She has also to act as relief health visitor during the absence
of any of the health visitors through illness or attendance at
conferences, etc.
It has become evident that the various duties in connection
with child welfare which have to be imposed on the Tuberculosis
Health Visitor owing to pressure of work have disturbed the
