Two mothers had labour induced in hospital to terminate
pregnancies lasting nearly 10 months.
A noticeable feature lately has been the far more frequent
occurrence of toxaemic conditions. Serious symptoms occurred in
8 cases, one kidney case resulting in stillbirth.
One mother who had not attended the clinic for the last
6 months of pregnancy developed eclampsia on the second day
after the birth, but was removed to hospital and fortunately
recovered.
Conditions in the remaining cases responded to prolonged
supervision and treatment.
No maternal death occurred.
No case of puerperal pyrexia was notified.
One case of mild ophthalmia neonatorum was notified.
A number of mothers needed much care on account of defects
in general health, e.g., goitre, anaemia, heart disease, bronchial
catarrh.
