mortality of any other local area, the crude death rate of which
should be similarly modified with its own factor for the purpose.
This figure for correcting the death rate has been provided as
it is found that the age and sex constitution of the borough differs
slightly from the general population of the country. On applying
this comparability factor (0.96), the adjusted death rate of the
borough is 10.6 per thousand population.
The principal causes of death in their order of severity were :
Heart Disease, 152 ; Cancer, 83 ; Tuberculosis (all forms) 39; and
Pneumonia (all forms), 44.
The average yearly death rate of the borough during the
previous five years was 11.6 per 1,000 population, so that the death
rate for 1935 is seen to be below this average.
Comparing this table with the corresponding table of the
preceding year, the following facts are noteworthy : There has
been a decrease in the number of deaths from Tuberculosis, the
deaths from Heart Disease and Pneumonia have increased and
the Cancer deaths have slightly decreased.
