The principal causes of death in their order of severity were :
Heart Disease, 177, Cancer, 87, Tuberculosis (all forms 52), and
Pneumonia (all forms) 40.
The average yearly death rate of the Borough during the
previous five years was 12.6 per 1,000 population, so that the death
rate for 1932 is seen to be slightly above this average.
Of the total 669 Stoke Newington deaths which occurred
during the year, no less than 340 took place in public institutions
this equals a proportion of 51% of the total deaths.
Comparing this table with the corresponding table of the
preceding year, the following facts are noteworthy; the increase
in the deaths from Heart Disease and the decrease in those from
Cancer and Pneumonia.
