Home Visiting.—The Council employs three full-time Health
Visitors, who divide their time between the necessary work at the
Centres and visiting the homes of the mothers and children.
Their duties are as follows:—
1. To visit the homes of all newlyborn children amongst
the working classes after the 10th day of birth and subsequently
as required.
2. To visit the homes and make investigations in regard
to stillbirths births and infant deaths.
3. To visit and give the necessary advice to parents in
cases of ophthalmia neonatorum, zymotic enteritis, whooping
cough, measles and other diseases causing deaths amongst
infants.
4. To visit and make reports on ail cases of puerperal
fever and puerperal pyrexia.
5. To investigate all applications for the supply of milk
free or below cost price.
The following statement gives an outline of the very important
work carried out by the Health Visitors during the year :
1. Visits Paid by the Three Health Visitors:—
To expectant mothers:—
(1). First Visits, 170 (2). Total Visits: 379
To infants under 1:—
(1). First Visits: 1,008 (2). Total Visits : 3,272
To children 1-5:—
(1). First Visits : 103 (2). Total Visits : 1,888
The total of 5,539 visits, although less than the figure for the
previous year (5,757) may be considered a satisfactory one in
view of the additional ante-natal and dental sessions which take
place weekly, and which cause a loss in the time available for
visiting.
