SCHOOLS.
The London County Council is the Education Authority and
deals with the health of the scholars and the hygiene of the schools
as a whole. The local Health Department co-operates in preventing
the spread of infectious disease in the Schools.
When a case of infectious disease is notified, the Sanitary
Inspector calls at the home concerned to make inquiries and to
examine into the sanitary condition of the premises. He ascertains
if school children live there, and if so, the head teacher concerned is at
once notified. During the year 180 such notices were sent.
During the year the London Boroughs have entered into an
agreement with the Country Authorities to co-operate with them
in the distribution of leaflets for parents dealing with Measles.
The leaflets (of which a standard draft has been approved by almost
all the London Borough Medical Officers of Health) are provided
by the local health department, and are sent as required to such
schools as the County Medical Officer chooses, following the occurrence
of cases. During 1927 leaflets to the number of 1,900 were sent to
six schools in the Borough.
