POPULATION.
The population at the last census (1921) was 52,167.
The following estimate of population for the middle of 1925 has
been adopted by the Register-General for the calculation of the
death-rate and birth-rate of the Borough for the year 1925:—
53,190.
This estimate of population is based on the adjusted 1921
census figures, after allowance for the varying rate of natural
increase as evidenced by the births and deaths, and of migration as
indicated from other sources of information such as the changes in
the numbers on the Electoral Register and the migration returns
obtained by the Board of Trade.
BIRTHS.

During the year 1925 there were 842 births, viz.:—425 males and 417 female. The birth-rate per 1,000 per annum was therefore 15.8, as against 16.6 for the preceding year.
