The Infectious Sickness-Rate (5.5) for the year 1908 is the third
lowest recorded since the formation of the Borough. Although there
were four Metropolitan Boroughs with lower rates, it compares very
favourably with the rate for London generally, of 7.4.
A noteworthy item in the annals of the Borough is the provision
within the Borough, during the year 1908, of a Steam Disinfecting
Station and of Baths for verminous persons. These provisions
constitute a real advance in the sanitary administration of the Borough.
The work of the Public Health Department has been carried on
by the present officials in a thoroughly satisfactory manner, and the
record of work which is set out in the appended report of the Chief
Sanitary Inspector is a good one.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
HENRY KENWOOD.
February 24th, 1909.
