Helps, Student Nurses in hospital and at Cheviot House The Principal Nursing Officer
has assisted with lectures in hospital to obstetric nurse students and in the hospital
examination of pupil midwives preparing for their Part 1 Examination of the Central
Midwives Board. In addition, small groups of pupil midwives undertaking training for
the qualification of State Certified Midwife attended the Health Department for
discussion
The Principal Nursing Officer attended various committees in hospitals and
organisations in the Borough regularly and family case conferences at intervals These
conferences and committees afford an opportunity to strengthen the liaison between the
Local Authority and allied services
A steady and profitable liaison was maintained between the Senior Nursing Officers
at Cheviot House and the staff of the District Nurses' Home at Stainsby Road, all the
more important in view of the pending integration of the District Nurse services in the
Health Department in April, 1969.
School Health Service
The normal sessions have been held in the various Treatment Centres, but in view
of the incidence of verminous conditions due to the type of families being re-housed in
the Wapping area, the Health Visitor and School Nurse have been actively engaged in
head cleansing for a considerable period.
Due to constant observation and selective hygiene inspect ions at frequent intervals,
infestation generally is being kept under control in all the schools in the Borough
