Thus of 1,064 alleged sources of infection 375 (35.2%) were persuaded to attend
compared with 29.7% in the previous year. Of the number attending 350 (93.3%) were found
to be infected. 147 other contacts of gonorrhoea attended and 99 (67.3%) were found to be
infected This increase in the effectivity of contact tracing in gonorrhoea results from a
continued co-operative endeavour by the staff of the department and in particular from the
valuable contribution made by the Social Workers."
COMPENSATION FOR STOPPING EMPLOYMENT
Section 41 of the Public Health Act 1961 makes provision for a Medical Officer of Health
to request any person to discontinue work with a view to preventing the spread of infectious
disease, such person to be compensated for any loss suffered as a consequence. It was not found
necessary to take action this year in this respect.
Food handlers excluded from work on account of suffering from infectious disease and for
which certificates were issued for the purpose of claiming National Insurance benefit numbered
11 during the year
