With the increase of the Inspectors and Disinfecting
Staff it became necessary to enlarge the office accommodation
at 333, Kennington Road, so as to give extra and
proper rooms for carrying on efficiently the work of the
Sanitary Department. By alterations to, and re-furnishing
of, the old Offices, together with the building of an extra
room at the rear of the main building for the sole use of the
Disinfecting Department, the Vestry are now in possession
of a Sanitary Office that will serve them with the present
Staff for some time to come, and is a great improvement
on the old arrangement. The total cost of the alterations
to, and re-furnishing (where required) of the Sanitary
Department's offices is £33 14s. 6d., and from this is to be
subtracted £9 2s., allowed for the old desks and chairs
which were sold; whilst the extra room at the rear cost
£25 9s. Id.

1884, and at the end of the year 1896 broke down and had
to be repaired at a cost of £64 13s. 3d. The repairing of the
machine took 15 days, during which time the disinfecting
work had to be carried out by a private contractor, at a
total cost of £89 15s. for 99 cwts. 2 qrs. 25 lbs. of bedding,
clothes, etc. The Medical Officer reported to the Vestry
as to the advisability of purchasing an extra disinfecting
machine for the use of the Parish, so that in the event of
another breakdown at any time, it would not be necessary
to spend large sums of money in having the disinfecting
work temporarily carried out by a private contractor. The
