the Medical Officer—the Attendants bringing in their list
monthly, except in the case of emergency. One free closct
is provided in each of the five Conveniences, in addition to
6 private w.c.s at Brixton (3 for males and 3 for females),
7 at Hercules Road (4 for males and 3 for females),
and 4 at Vauxhall (for males only); and in connection
with the locks of the private W.Cs. the self.registering
system is found to work satisfactorily— each penny
received being registered on a little square within the
locks themselves, and copied from there into books daily by
the Attendants. When a W.C. door is opened by an Attendant
with his key, the next number on a square moves half
into view, but only fully into view (thus becoming registered)
when the door is unlocked by an occupant from the inside.
The numbers register up to 999, and then commence again
at 000, so that the registration is continuous, and the locks
in consequence are not interfered with unless they get out
of order.
The doors of the water closets are all self.closing.
All monies received by the attendants are paid in weekly
by them direct to the Accountant at the Vestry Hall.
The Male Attendants are each supplied yearly with a cap
and 3 jackets (one for winter and 2 for summer), and the
Female Attendants each with dark blue serge material for a
dress (not exceeding 30/.).
In connection with the Hercules and Brixton Underground
Conveniences, the Male and Female Attendants are
furnished with Police whistles as a means of communication,
from one to the other, in case of accident or anything
serious happening.
