the cases heard before the Magistrate are to be found on

London Vestries have immense powers to reform the
dwellings of the poor.
Before leaving this subject it is a source of satisfaction to
the Medical Officer of Health to report that, though the
Duchy of Cornwall is outside the pale of the Housing of
the Working Classes Act, and, in consequence, as the
ground landlord of a large portion of Lambeth Parish might
prove troublesome in respect of any action taken under this
particular Act of Parliament, the Council of H.R.H. the
Prince of Wales have sent a written statement to him to
the effect, inter alia, that "they are at all times most

contemplating improvements on the score of the
Public Health, or in the interests of the working classes"—
an important admission in connection with sanitary reform
in Lambeth.
