During the year my deputy Dr. G. S. Udall, a most able and
likeable colleague, resigned on his appointment as Senior Lecturer in
Child Health at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, At about the same
time the department suffered the loss by retirement of Miss Helen
Townsend who as Superintendent Health Visitor contributed so much
to the smooth running and development of the local maternity and
child welfare services. A warm welcome is extended to their
successors Dr. A. Shaw and Miss Mary Smith.
In conclusion I wish to acknowledge my indebtedness to colleagues
who have made this Report possible and to express my sincere
gratitude to the Chairman (Councillor F. C. V. Hayward) and to
members of the Committee for their encouragement and support
throughout the year.
