SLAUGHTERHOUSES
No slaughtering of animals took place in the Borough during the
year and the Council refused an application for re-licensing a former
slaughterhouse. Facilities for the slaughter of animals for human consumption
continue to be available at Caledonian Market and supplies
of dressed carcases are readily available to dealers at Smithfield Market.
Transport facilities between these places and the retail stores in the
Borough appear to be adequate and it is encouraging to see that improvements
continue to be made in the design, arrangements, and fitting of
these vehicles.
