REPORT OF PHYSICAL TRAINING ORGANISER.
During the year under review encouraging progress in
Physical Education was evident in the Borough until the outbreak
of war in September resulted in the temporary closing
of schools.
Teachers responded to the invitations to attend courses in: —
(1) Physical Training for Infants—Women.
(2) Physical Training for Juniors—Women.
(3) Class Instruction in Land Drill and Water
Practice for Swimming—Men.
(4) Class Instruction in Land Drill and Water
Practice for Swimming—Women.
In addition, a Demonstration of Physical Training, Games
and Swimming Films was given.
Following on Course 4, eight women teachers attended a
class for Awards of the Amateur Swimming Association, and
the Royal Life-Saving Society. Unfortunately, the war broke
out before the examinations were taken.
Physical Training.
The indications are that, during the past two years, and
particularly during the year in question, the teachers generally
have shown greater interest in, and enthusiasm for, Physical
Training and its allied subjects in the schools, with a resultant
higher standard of work by the children.
These improvements are probably the result of: —
(1) The various Training Courses held for Teachers
in 1938 and 1939.
(2) The regular visits paid to the schools by the
Organisers, during which teachers are
helped and advised individually and, quite
frequently, demonstrations are given by
the Organisers to one or more teachers.
(3) The provision of new gymnasia and better
facilities generally for Physical Training in
some schools.
