The second was the compilation of a new Register, including
records of conditions found and action taken.
Unfortunately about this time there was a surfeit of new
legislation, which included the new Public Health Act and the
new Shops Acts as examples, bringing new duties in their train.
In spite of this, however, progress was made and the Register
was completed. Since the outbreak of war, however, little
could be done to keep the Register up to date, owing to A.R.P.
and other requirements.
The number of Factories inspected during the year is 122
and the defects found, which were relatively small, are those
recorded in the Appendix.
BASEMENT BAKEHOUSES.
There are three basement or semi-basement bakehouses in
the Borough and these have been examined as to their suitability
for use as such, as regards construction, height, light,
ventilation, etc.
The Council being satisfied that the bakehouses were suitable
as regards the matters aforesaid, certificates under the
Factories Act. 1001. were allowed to continue to operate so long
as the bakehouses may otherwise lawfully be used, but without
prejudice to the power of the Council to revoke the certificates
as a result of subsequent examinations nnder the Act.
