HOUSING ACT, 1936.
The detailed examination of working-class accommodation in
the district, including the measurement of habitable rooms, was
practically completed in June of this year.
Changes such as occupancy and the difficulty some owners
and agents had in deciding what constituted working-class accommodation
have resulted in fresh applications from time to time
since that date.
A temporary staff of four men was engaged to assist the
sanitary inspectors, working in all 24 weeks, and the cost of
this work was £296.
12,767 houses have been visited and the permitted number
allowed under this Act forwarded to the landlords or agents.
This practice of sending out the permitted number with or
without application on the part of the landlords or agents was
put into operation so as to ensure as far as possible that the
permitted number allowed would be entered in the rent book or
similar document.
