overcrowding.
OFFICIAL SURVEY UNDER THE HOUSING ACT, 1935.
This survey was commenced on December 30th, 1935, and
completed on March 21st, 1936.
Among 11,120 houses visited, 177 were found to be overcrowded
by 188 families.
Six years ago the Health Committee called for a quarterly
report on cases of overcrowding found in the ordinary routine
work of the Health Department.
The relatively low incidence of overcrowding in the Borough
revealed by the recent survey is largely due to the fact that the
problem of overcrowding has received constant attention during
the last six years.
I desire to acknowledge, too, the valuable assistance rendered
bv the Hornsey Housing Trust, Ltd., in dealing with difficult
cases not eligible for Council houses and unable to find suitable
accommodation privately.
During these six years 186 cases of overcrowding were
reported and 145 cases were abated. During 1935 families to
the number of 122, representing 489 persons, have been rehoused
in the following streets:—
