The five-year programme initiated in 1930 for the closing
and demolition of unfit houses and the rehousing of their
occupants in modern flats has continued steadily and is nowcompleted.
No serious difficulty or opposition has been encountered in
the carrying through of this programme, the various steps of
which are set out in the accompanying table:—
