into the throat. The result is that the inflammation persists and
extends up the eustachian tube into the ear.
Owing to the importance of treating inflammation of the nosu
and to the introduction of a reasonable and efficient method of
treatment by Dr. Gautier, of Paris, called diastolisation, much
attention is paid to the nose at the Clinic, and the treatment is
carried out there during the week by the nurses, or at other
centres (Brook lioad. Coldfall School, Wightman lload and Highgate
Infant Welfare Centres), or in many cases by an intelligent
mother at home.
The results have been good. Not only are the conditions in
the nose and ear relieved, but mouth breathing is unnecessary,
and the general health is improved, :ts an ample supply of air can
now be taken into the chest.
