The Byelaws relating to slaughter-houses were revised in
November, 1930, and the use of a "mechanical killer" made
compulsory in the slaughter of any bull, ox, cow or heifer.
The local R.S.P.C.A. Inspector has tried to encourage the
use of the humane, or mechanical, killer for the slaughter of
sheep and has lent instruments and cartridges to the butchers in
the hope of making the method popular with them.
FISH.
Boxes of fish brought from the London Market are sometimes
found to be unsound on arrival at their destination. These
are submitted for examination, destroyed, and a "condemned"
note is given, which enables the dealer to obtain a fresh supply
or an allowance from the wholesaler. This arrangement is quite
good and results in prompt notification.
