There are also three houses, Nos. 38, 40, 42, Myddelton
Road, owned by the Council, which are let out to several families.
The inclusive rents of the various dwellings range from 11/6
to 22/- per week.
Newlands Road Estate.—Arrangements are being made for
the erection of 33 flats on land in Newlands Road. These flats
will probably be ready for occupation during the coming year.
During 1928 there were 86 houses and 17 flats erected by
private enterprise, and 21 houses were converted into flats.

INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.

Milk.—The following are the registration and licensing figures for 1928:—

Premises registered as dairies62

Premises licensed to sell "Grade A Milk" (2 of which are for bottling and sale)3

Thirty-six samples of milk from roundsmen have been taken
by the Chief Inspector and submitted to bacteriological examination.
Where the results were not satisfactory the milk vendor
was interviewed, and in every case methods were suggested and
agreed to for the better handling of the milk.
Milk and Dairies Orders, 1926.—In two instances milk
roundsmen were found to be contravening the provisions of the
Milk and Dairies Order by filling milk bottles in the street. In
one case the man attended before the Committee and was reprimanded,
and in the second case a summons was issued and the
man was fined £1.
