Forty-five inspections were made under the Diseases of
Animals Acts of animals brought into the Borough, viz.:—
170 sheep, 307 pigs and 16 beasts.
A small outbreak of swine fever occurred in the last quarter
of the year. The animals which died showed typical lesions on
post-mortem examination, and the diagnosis was confirmed by
an Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. I
am indebted to Mr. Buxton for the prompt and efficient way
in which he dealt with the whole matter.
PUBLIC EDUCATION IN HEALTH.
In October, 1927, the Town Councd began the monthly
distribution of 2,000 copies of the journal, "Better Health,"
throughout the Borough. Copies are sent to the various schools,
public and private, to all religious organisations, to the various
maternity and child welfare centres, to all general practitioners
and to all persons engaged in forms of social work. Many expressions
of appreciation of the journal have been received, and
there is no doubt that the small annual expenditure incurred is
already amply justified.
