Petroleum Stores.— There are 37 Petroleum Stores on
the Register, and 78 inspections were made during the year.
Nuisances, Drainage, ice.— Three hundred and twenty-one
complaints have been leceived during the year, classified as
follows:—
Obstructed or defective drains 47
Defective sanitary fittings 37
Dirty and defective condition of premises 70
Dampness of premises 14
Defective roofs 51
Water in basement 3
Burst water pipes 2
Accumulation of refuse 7
Defective and dirty condition of drinking

At 63 premises the drains have been tested, examined,
exposed, etc.

The usual intimations were issued, and where necessary
statutory notices served as follows:—
Preliminary intimations 1,378
Statutory Notices on resolution of the Council 472
In 4 cases legal proceedings were instituted against persons
who had failed to comply with statutory notices to remedy
defects. In each case an Order of the Court, was made for the
work to be done.
In 35 instances the drains, etc., were re-constructed entirely,
and in others the defects found were, remedied and the nuisances
abated.
