In 19 instances contravention of the bye-laws or regulations
have been found, and the matters were at once attended to.
Ice-cream.—There are 72 premises in the Borough from
which ice-cream is sold, and these were frequently inspected during
the summer.
Rag Flock Act.—Thirty inspections have been made of
premises where Flock is used, and no contravention of the Act has
been found.
Petroleum Stores.—There are 27 Petroleum Stores on the
Register, and 67 inspections were made during the year.
Nuisances, Drainage, etc.—One hundred and ninety-one
complaints have been received during the year, classified as
follows:—
Obstructed or defective drains 36
Defective sanitary fittings 28
Dirty condition of premises 15
Dampness of premises 9
Water in basement 5
Accumulation of refuse 22
Overcrowding 2
Dirty condition of drinking water cistern 1
Nuisances caused by the keeping of fowls, etc. 7

At two hundred and forty-eight premises the drains have been
tested, examined, exposed, etc.—

The usual intimations were issued, and where necessary statutory
notices served.
In sixty-seven instances the drains, etc., were re-constructed
entirely, and in the others the defects found were remedied and
the nuisances abated.
