Births.—The number of births recorded during 1910 was
1,393. This is a decrease of 115 compared with the number of
births registered in 1909. In the preceding twelve months (1909,
compared with 1908) there was an increase of 23 in the recorded
births.
Thirty-one of the births were illegitimate (27 in 1909).
Ten of the births occurred at the Edmonton Workhouse, and
one at the New Edmonton Infirmary.
The birth-rate for the year was 14.7, as compared with 16.3
in 1909. The accompanying chart shows that in 1884 the birthrate
was over 33 per 1,000 of the population, and shows the
striking decline in the birth-rate during the last 27 years.
