Municipal Laboratory.— During the year 1,799 specimens
were examined from patients who were, or were suspected to be,
suffering from Diphtheria. Of these 1,599 were specimens taken
at the Hospital, and 200 specimens were sent in by Medical men
practising in the district.
There were 57 specimens sent by Medical practitioners for
examination from suspected cases of Tuberculosis, 17 examinations
of blood for Typhoid re-action, and 13 miscellaneous specimens
were received and examined.
There were also 35 specimens examined from children suffering
from Ringworm who were scholars at the public elementary
schools.
Altogether 1,921 specimens were examined in the Bacteriological
Laboratory, of which 278 were received from Medical men
practising in the district. Last year there were 358 specimens
received from Medical practitioners. The decrease is no doubt
due to the fact that Diphtheria and other infectious diseases have
been less prevalent this year.
There were 1,810 samples of sewage and effluent analysed
and reported on.
There were also 36 samples of drinking water examined, and
in every case the sample was found to be quite satisfactory.
Diseases of Animals Acts.—There were no outbreaks of
Glanders during the year.
Middlesex (Parasitic Mange) Order, 1909.—During the year

horses at Highgate were found to be suffering from the disease,
10 at Muswell Hill, 2 at Crouch End, and 4 at Hornsey.
The Regulations prescribed by the Order were enforced.
There were 5 certificates for the movement of swine issued.
Destruction of Dogs.—95 dogs were brought by their
owners to be destroyed in the Lethal Chamber at the Sanitary
