THE « SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS" FOR THE
YEAR 1888.
During the nine months ending December, 1888, 480 samples of
food, all of which were submitted by your Inspectors, and examined by
the newly appointed Public Analyst, Dr. Teed, no samples having been
sent to him by the Public.
The 480 samples submitted by your Inspectors consisted of:—

6 Sugar | 6 Mustard | 6 Pickles |
6 Jam | 3 Capers | 5 Sherry |
9 Cocoa | 4 Ice Cream | 6 Oatmeal |
6 Lard | 6 Cheese | 5 Cayenne Pepper |
6 Bitter Ale | 6 Whisky | 9 Flour |
6 Rum | 6 Sweets | 5 Lime Juice |
6 Vinegar | 6 Coffee | 3 Spirits of Nitre |
6 Black Tea | 6 Chicory | 2 Yeast |
6 Honey | 6 Bread | 2 Margarine |
6 Gin | 21 White Pepper | 60 Butter |
19 Black Pepper | 6 Green Tea 194 Milk. | 6 Brandy |
Of the 480 samples submitted for examination by your Inspectors,
it was certified that 31 samples of Milk, 3 of Cocoa, 1 of Pepper, 1 of
Rum, and 1 of Butter, were adulterated or contained injurious admixture,
and the Vendors were prosecuted accordingly.
The result of the summonses will be found elsewhere, but beyond
these 37 samples the Analyst had no occasion to find fault with the
quality of the articles submitted for analysis.
For the information of the Vestry, the Reports of the Analyst,
Dr. Teed, together with their accompanying Schedules, are attached
hereto.
