"THE SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1875."
Report of the Public Analyst appointed for the Parish of St. Mary
Islington, upon the Articles analysed by him under the above Act,
during the Quarter ending the 30th June, 1884.
TO THE VESTRY OF ST. MARY ISLINGTON.
Gentlemen,
During the past quarter I have examined 28 samples of food and
drink submitted to me by your Inspectors, and one sample submitted to me
by the Guardians of the Parish.
The 28 samples included Bread and Flour; among groceries were
samples of Coffee, Chicory, Cocoa, Arrowroot, Oatmeal, Mustard, Black and
Green Tea, Pickles, Cayenne, and White Pepper, Moist Sugar, Lime Juice,
and Mixed Sweets ; samples of Milk, Butter, Cheese, and Lard ; of articles
sold by publicans, samples of Ale and Porter, Port Wine, Gin, "Whisky, and
Brandy, were also examined by me.
The Spirits were in every case of the strength required by the Act of
Parliament, whilst the samples of Beer and Port Wine contained nothing
injurious to health.
The other samples were without exception genuine.
The sample of Milk submitted to me by the Guardians gave no indicalions
of being adulterated.
