THE "SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS' ACTS," FOR YEAR 1882.
During the twelve months ending December, 1882, I examined
116 samples of food, 114 of which were submitted to me by your
Inspectors, and 2 by the public.
This makes in all 1,123 samples of food examined for Islington
since my appointment.
The 114 samples submitted by your Inspectors consisted of—
34 Milk | 2 Chicory |
6 Port Wine | 2 Black Tea |
6 Gin | 2 Moist Sugar |
6 Brandy | 2 Jam |
6 Rum | 2 Mustard |
2 Whisky | 2 Black Pepper |
6 Fourpenny Ale | 2 Cayenne Pepper |
6 Porter | 2 Lard |
2 Bread | 3 Flour |
4 Butter | 2 Oatmeal |
2 Cheese | 2 Pickles |
2 Arrowroot | 2 Sweets |
2 Cocoa | 1 Lime Juice |
2 Coffee | 1 Lemon Juice |
1 Tinned Rabbit.
Of these I certified 14 samples of Milk to be adulterated, but
otherwise I had no occasion to find fault with the quality of the various
articles submitted to me for analysis by your Inspectors.
I have, however, taken this opportunity of publishing in an
Appendix attached hereto, for the information of the Vestry and the public,
my Reports as Analyst for the whole of the year in ext.enso, together
with their several accompanying Schedules, and for further remarks
upon this subject, I refer the reader to these detailed Reports.
The results of the 14 Summonses will also be found elsewhere.
Of the two samples submitted by the public, it will be seen that
one was genuine Flour, and that the other was Butter adulterated with
a large excess of water.
