miles, having been reduced in length since the time of Sir Hugh
Myddelton by an alteration of its original winding course, by about
10¾ miles. I know the New River perfectly from one end to the
other, and have been down it in a boat; and it gives me pleasure
to speak of its excellent state of preservation, a preservation which
reflects the highest credit on the Company.
