REPORT
on the
SANITARY CONDITION OF ST. MARY, ISLINGTON,
FOR MARCH, 1869.
No. CLXIII.
The three hundred and ninety.nine deaths registered in the five weeks
ending April 3rd, represent a mortality less, by sixty.two deaths, than
would have happened had the death.rate for this month been equal to
the average of the ten previous years. The total new cases ot'
sickness recorded upon our Sickness Table are less numerous than they
were in March last year. Both measles and scarlet fever have continued
to lessen in prevalence since February, and may be regarded as
quiescent, even for this season of the year. The only diseases which
have been unusually prevalent are hooping cough, among the members
of the zymotic class, and acute diseases of the chest: among the latter,
cases of pleurisy seem to have been more common than usual. The
mean temperature of the month has been eight degrees lower than that
of February.
