REPORT
on the
SANITARY CONDITION OF ST. MAM, ISLINGTON,
FOR, MAY, 1867.
No. CXXI.
The month of May this year has been distinguished by its very small
mortality. The number of deaths registered did not exceed 228, the
mean corrected mortality of the previous ten years being 305. The
general sickness, however, has been considerable for May, the total
number of new cases recorded being 2503. Among them were 33 cases
Small-pox and 69 of Diarrhoea.
As the hot weather appears to be now setting in, I think it is
desirable that the disinfection of the sewers and gulley openings in the
streets with carbolic acid should be repeated as a precautionary measure.
I have arranged for the use of carbolic acid in the privies and closets in
neighbourhoods affected last year with Cholera.
EDWARD BALLARD, M.D.,
Medical OJJicer of Health.
Vestry Offices,
June 8th, 1867.
