The table of sickness presents the following as its more important features,
viz:
1º. A diminution to one-half of the number of cases of small-pox in the
charitable practice of this parish, as compared with those in April, and to the
extent of two-thirds as compared with those in March.—2º. A steady increase
in the number of cases of measles, 79 cases were recorded by the district
Surgeons and Dispensaries against 57 last month and 36 in March : the weekly
numbers were 19, 19, 24, 17.—3º. A marked reduction in the number of
cases of pulmonary catarrh and bronchitis, viz.: from 426 in April to 215, a
number which does not represent more than the amount of illness from this
cause, customary in May.
