VACCINATION.
Of the 5,662 births registered in 1924, the returns of vaccination show that
only 2,915 infants were successfully vaccinated, while 15 were found to be
insusceptible. There were also 265 who died unvaccinated, and 1,755 statutory
declarations of conscientious objection to vaccination were obtained by the parents
or guardians; 41 vaccinations were postponed under medical authority, 273 were
removed to other districts or places unknown, thus leaving 2,126 unaccounted
for. The return of certificates of exemption, therefore, represents 31 per cent.
of the registered births.
