Acute Encephalitis Lethargica and Acute Polio-Encephalitis.
These diseases became notifiable under an Order of the Local Government
Board on the 1st January, 1919, and during the year 17 cases of Acute Encephalitis
Lethargica were notified, C of which proved fatal. No case of Acute PolioEncephalitis
was known in the Borough.
Ophthalmia Neonatorium. Purulent Disease of the Eyes of Newly-born Children.

Tuberculosis.
During the year 885 cases of Tuberculosis in its different forms were notified.
The attack-rate was equal to 2.01 per 1,000 of the civil population. This number
shows an increase of 219 on the return of the previous year (666), and of 0.67 per
1,000 on the attack-rate (1.94). It was also 213 above the number in 1923.
Respiratory (Pulmonary) Tuberculosis.—696 notifications were
received, of which 396 referred to males and 300 to females, and represented an
attack-rate of 2.05 per 1,000. The return was an increase of 156 on that of
1924, and 154 on 1923.
