HOUSES LET IN LODGINGS.
There were 1,011 houses under the operation of the bye-laws at the end of the
year 1925; 219 inspections were made during the year, followed by 2,122 subsequent
re-inspections and calls, so that the total visits amounted to 2,371.
These inspections resulted in 364 intimations being served on the persons
responsible, which were followed by 80 statutory notices to demand the abatement
of the nuisances discovered by the inspector especially engaged upon his work.
It was not found necessary to take legal proceedings for non-compliance with the
notices served.
Altogether, 953 improvements were effected in 293 premises.
In addition to figures given above, 1,585 inspections and calls were made by
the Inspector in District No. 2 during the District Inspector's absence on sick
leave.
