ENTERIC FEVER.
The return of only 97 cases is exceedingly satisfactory, as it is no less
than 111 below the corrected average for the preceding 10 years. In the
County of London 1,357 cases occurred. The record of this disease is given in
Table K in the Appendix, and shows that in the quinquennium 1891-1895
1,088 cases occurred in the borough, in the following five years, 1896-1900, 1334;
been a very regular decline in the number of cases notified, for the records show
that in that year 281 cases occurred. Year by year these have decreased
and in the third quinquennium, 1901-1905, 894. Ever since 1901, in which
year 281 cases occurred, there has been a very regular decline in the number
of cases notified, until at last the low returns of 1907 and 1908 were reached.
The attack-rate was 0.27 per 1,000 inhabitants, while in the County of
London it was 0.28.
Fatality.—The returns show that 18 deaths occurred amongst the notified
cases, or 18.5 per cent., as compared with 141 per cent. in 1907, 12.7 per cent.
in 1906, and 17 0 per cent. in 1905.
