11.—No article of food should be kept in the sick room, nor consumed by
any person in the room except the patient, and what he does not
partake of should be destroyed by fire.
12.—Under no circumstances should the dairyman's milkcan be brought
into the sick room or even handled by the nurse, lest it should become
infected, and so possibly infect other cans with which it is brought
into contact at the dairy.
13.—All bed and body linen used by the sick person should be at once
steeped for a few hours in a disinfectant, and afterwards BOILED
in water.
14.—Instead of Handkerchiefs, small pieces of rag should be used, and then
these should be burned.
15.—When recovering, and if the body of the patient is peeling, camphorated
or carbolised oil should be rubbed over the sick person every day.
16.—The sick person must not be allowed to mix with the rest of the
family until the peeling has entirely ceased, and until the discharges
from the ears, nose, or throat have disappeared.
17.—When the patient has been declared by his medical attendant to be
well, send to the Medical Officer of Health for the room and its
contents to be disinfected.
18.—Children in the same family or in the same house must on no
account be allowed to attend Day School or Sunday School until the
patient has recovered from his illness and until one week has elapsed
after the disinfection has been carried out.
In Case of Death.
1.—The body should not be removed into another room, as thereby it
may spread the infection through the house. It is still infectious.
2.—No articles of bedding or clothing should be removed from the room
until it has been disinfected, after which they should be taken to the
Council's disinfection chambers for the purpose of being disinfected
by steam.
3.—In washing the body, Carbolic Acid (a dessert-spoonful to the gallon
of water) should be used.
