In the Quarters.—In the first quarter the number of cases notified
was 515, which were equal to an annual attack-rate of 5.90 per 1,000 of the
inhabitants. They were 4 above the corrected average (511) which obtained in
the first quarters of the preceding ten years.
In the same period in the County of London the attack-rate was 7.68 per
1,000, and in the Encircling Boroughs 3.78.
In the second quarter the number of cases notified was 422, which were
equal to an annual attack-rate of 4.83 per 1,000 inhabitants. They were 93
below the corrected average (515) of the preceding 10 years. In the County
of London in the same period the attack-rate was 5.94 per 1,000, and in the
Encircling Boroughs 5.64.
In the third quarter 595 cases, equal to an annual attack-rate of 6.25 per
1,000 inhabitants per annum, were notified. They were 43 below the corrected
average (638) of the corresponding third quarters of the preceding 10 years.
In the County of London the attack-rate was 7 04 per 1,000 and in the
Encircling Boroughs 6.74.
In the fourth quarter there were 759 cases reported, which produced an
annual attack-rate of 8 05 per 1,000 inhabitants. The cases were 58 below
the corrected average which had obtained in the fourth quarters of the preceding
10 years. In the County of London the attack-rate was 8.66 per 1,000
inhabitants, while in the Encircling Boroughs it was 8.79.
