Tabes Mesenterica, which is popularly known as consumption of the
bowels, was the registered cause of 45 deaths, representing a death-rate of 0.13 per
1,000 of the population. No less than 28 of these deaths were under 5 years
of age, of which one half had not reached the end of their first year. 27 of
the deaths were of the male sex, and 18 of the female.
Tubercular Meningitis and Hydrocephalus caused 63 deaths,, of
which 31 were among males and 32 among females. 13 of the deceased were
under a year old, 39 between 1 and 5, and 11 over 5 years. The death-rate
was equal to 018 per 1,000 of the inhabitants.
Tuberculosis of the Larynx.—To this disease was ascribed the deaths
of 4 persons, 3 of whom were males and one female. All of them were over
5 years of age.
General Tuberculosis or Scrofula was responsible for 40 deaths, 21
males, and 19 females, and they represented a death-rate of 0.11 per 1,000
of the inhabitants. Eight of the deceased had not reached their 12th month,
19 were between that age and 5 years, and 13 were over 5 years.
Other Forms of Tuberculosis caused 20 deaths, of which 2 were under
5 years.
