CONSTITUTIONAL DISEASES.
In this group Cancer, Tuberculous Diseases, Rheumatic Fever, Rheumatism,
Rickets, Diabetes, Gout and a few other diseases, as set out in Table
LXIX., are included.
Cancer and other Malignant Diseases.—During 1908 367 deaths
were registered, as compared with a corrected average of 304 in the 17 years
1891-1907, and they were in the proportion of 10.31 deaths per 10,000 of the
population as against 8.7 in the period 1891-1907. There has thus been an
increase of 63 in the number of deaths and of 1.61 in the rate.

The return is larger than any to be found in the above mentioned years. At the same time it must not be forgotton that there has been an additional week, in which 7 deaths were entered, in the registration year, 1908.
