situate between York and Caledonian Roads, the rate has been 148 per
thousand births, and so it is found also that the mortality in the other districts
has been affected according to the social standing of the residents.
These facts alone support the argument that if the Council would save
infant lives they must do so by appointing persons to instruct the ignorant
as to the rearing of children.

The following table shows the deaths and infantile mortality rates in each district during 1908:—
