Several of these people are old offenders, and, indeed, one of them had
seven previous convictions against him.
It is much to be regretted that among them, and, indeed, one of
the worst, was a man who should have set an example for honest and fair
trading to others, for he was a member of the Borough Council, from which
he has now retired. This was not his first offence, for he had been convicted
on four previous occasions.
After the prosecutions had concluded, Mr. R. L. Bowen Colthurst wrote
on behalf of the Irish Board of Agriculture thanking the Borough Council for
the kindness and courtesy shown to himself personaly and to the other
officers of the Board; and also paid a very high tribute to the attention and
acuteness which Mr. Burrell had shown in helping matters to a satisfactory
conclusion.
Cheese.—40 samples were submitted to the public analyst, who
reported that they were not adulterated.
Lard.—All the samples, 20 in number, were found to be genuine.
Groceries.—185 samples of various foods usually purchasable at an
ordinary grocer's shop were examined, and of these 14, or 7.6 per cent., were
found to be adulterated.

The names of the samples and their analyses are set out in the Table annexed.
