FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ADMINISTRATION.
In compliance with the requirements of the Factory and Workshops Act,
it is the duty of the Medical Officer of Health to submit an annual report on
the manner in which its provisions are carried out in his district, and accordingly
he herewith submits his report.
Inspectors.—Three inspectors, one man and two women, are employed
on this work. The man and one woman are engaged in inspecting factories
and workshops where men and women are employed; and the second woman
inspector visits the homes of outworkers and also inspects the kitchens of
restaurants and places where food is cooked.
Inspections and Yisits. — The total number of inspections, and visits to the several places under the charge of the above-mentioned inspectors was 11,230, as contrasted with 10,655 made during the preceding year. The particulars of these are as follows:—

Notices served.—These inspections resulted in the detection of 990
sanitary defects, and entailed the service of 176 intimations and 7 statutory
notices, of which 25 were served on the owners of factories, 100 on the owners
of workshops, and 18 on the owners of workplaces other than outworkers'
premises. In addition to these, 35 notices were served for the abatement of
92 nuisances on outworkers' premises.
