Altogether 72,368 large articles, not including the verminous children's
clothing, were disinfected, as compared with 69,509 in 1912, and 88,999 in
1911. They included, however, 20,786 second-hand garments, consisting
mainly of soldiers' overcoats, jackets and tunics, about to be exported, which
were for the most part only disinfected to enable the consignors to obtain
certificates that the clothing was free from infection, which are required by
several foreign and British Dominion Governments before the goods are
allowed to be landed in their countries.
The actual number of garments, etc., removed from the houses wherein
infectious diseases had occurred or verminous persons resided was 51,582, as
compared with 37,217 in 1912; with 37,600 in 1911; with 27,168 in 1910; with
37,273 in 1909, and with 36,106 in 1908.
These figures do not include the clothing of the children who were
cleansed and bathed at the station for the Education Authority.
